I Have Been Arrested
What is happening?
Being arrested is serious. It can feel overwhelming, frightening and like everything is over. It is not over. But what happens next matters — and some of it is in your control.
What may be underneath it?
An arrest is a moment in a longer story. It does not define you. But it is a signal — something needs to change, either in the situation you are in, the decisions you are making, or both.
What makes things worse?
Not taking it seriously. Not getting proper legal advice. Cutting off from the people who can help you. Believing that because you have been arrested, your future is already decided.
What can help?
Get proper legal advice — you are entitled to it. Be honest with the people who are trying to help you. Think about what led to this and what needs to be different. Stay connected to people who have your best interests at heart.
